And I never had really thought about going to college until, all of a sudden, there was this thing that I heard about in prison called the Bard Prison Initiative. And I think - I was lonely. They spoke with FRESH AIR's Dave Davies. And I got there, and I took the entrance exam and sat in my cell and waited for the acceptance letter. And, you know, just being in a classroom setting where I was sitting down with people from different backgrounds, listening to their stories and their ideas and you start to appreciate that despite the differences that we have, there are so much more similarities among us.
TATRO: So I actually graduated with my BA after I was released from prison.
And that totally allowed me to reimagine myself.
